By now most of us have seen or heard about the guy who took a leap from the edge of space with only a parachute on his back!

“Felix Baumgartner hit Mach 1.24, or 833.9 mph, according to preliminary data, and became the first man to reach supersonic speed without traveling in a jet or a spacecraft after hopping out of a capsule that had reached an altitude of 128,100 feet above the Earth.”

This reminds me of parenting and how we “take a leap,”  every single day. Kids in the 1950’s didn’t come with instruction manuals and they still don’t. It’s just hit or miss with raising kids. There are days when I would give anything to send my kids far, far away, like 833 miles straight up!  And as a Mom, there are days when travelling at supersonic speeds would be an awesome trick  just to stay a couple of steps ahead of my two preteens.  Parenting forces you to cope, re-adjust, scream occasionally and choose your battles, one by one.

Having a pressurized spacesuit on hand to protect me from pre-teen tantrums that eventually cause shock waves, would really come in handy.  Dear Santa, please bring me a size____ pressurized spacesuit for Christmas!

Seriously, parenting can be hazardous to your health.  Your limits are tested every step of the way. Next time my kids begin their testing phase on me, I’m gonna suit up and rocket up to the edge of space, see how they like that one!!
