I’ve been doing some reading about NASA”s spacecraft, “Dawn” that just recently began orbiting the giant asteroid named “Vesta.” Dawn will orbit Vesta until July 2012 and then the spacecraft will head off to another object in the asteroid belt named, “Ceres,” a dwarf planet.
“Though they both reside in the asteroid belt, Vesta and Ceres are very different bodies. Ceres is more primitive and wet, possily harboring water ice. Vesta, on the other hand, seems to be drier and rockier, researchers have said.” (as reported by Space.com)
I couldn’t help but notice the similarities of how Dawn is constantly orbiting Vesta …. and parenting tween twins. I know, it sounds really far-fetched. But I feel as though I am being orbited by spacecraft, the humanoid-type who will continue to orbit this Mommy until who knows when?
In fact, just as Vesta and Ceres are different, Rocket Boy and Channel Chick are worlds apart. They may not reside in the asteroid belt at the moment, but some days I sure wish I could send them there.

When Dawn moves on to the next stop, the dwarf planet Ceres, then Mommies In Orbit will still be here getting the wranglers ready for middle school. Just as NASA is tracking the spacecraft Dawn, my kids always know where I am. As you can see from the drawing below, it’s not a pretty sight when I try to get away for some “alone time.”

Someday when the wranglers finally leave Mommies In Orbit, I will miss them, but I will be relieved that they have finally found their own place to orbit.
