Here’s hoping everyone had a safe 4th of July, I know we had some blastin’ noise going on in our neighborhood. Every year, Mommies In Orbit spends the 4th with her faithful companions, The Black Dog and Smart Border Collie. We hang out in the A/C and watch the fireworks on the tube with the sound turned down. My dogs are not fond of the unexplained booms, bangs and bright flashes. It’s the least I can do for them after all of the unconditional love they give to me.

Here are some of my favorite things to hear on July 5th and always for that matter:
- Silence.
- Or how about, “Mom can we please go to the library, we really miss reading books!”
- This is my favorite, “Oh dear, I’m taking the kids on a second vacation up until school starts, so you can have plenty of time to pamper yourself, how does that sound?”
- “Mom, can we please, please go to an”out of state” camp for the rest of the Summer?”
- “Hey, did you hear that Keith Urban is gonna have another concert this week and you have front row seats, Mom!”
- “Yo Mom, we have the pool all cleaned up, your favorite tunes on, the umbrellas cranked up and your X-tra large iced tea, ready to go. Enjoy your private pool time, Mom, us wranglers are just gonna stay inside and clean up the house for you!”
- “Did you hear the news Mom? Both of us have been invited to sleepovers, and Dad is working a 24-hour shift, enjoy the peace and quiet, see ya!”
OK, Mommies In Orbit, wake up and smell the coffee, you were just dreaming!
