I did something today that I would consider wild and crazy for my age, uhm, OK, I’m over-the-hill & speeding rapidly down the other side….. that’s all I’m gonna say about numbers.  I took my kids to Six Flags. Yes the weather was perfect, it wasn’t too crowded, and we even remembered where we parked. And yes, I totally felt like a Grandma getting on and off those rides.

Seems like most of the rides are going at super-sonic speed. They consist of huge hunks of steel track that jut straight up toward the clouds and whoosh you through the air with reckless abandon. And those were just the ones I watched, from a safe, cozy distance.

My kids were bouncing around on the rides like rubber toys, while I felt like I was being slammed from side to side while white-knuckling it back to the station, praying that I would not be in the orthopedic’s office on Monday.  Had it not been for the power of Ibuprofen, I would have never made it to the car. Meanwhile my kids wanted more food and more body slamming rides.

The old rollercoasters are rough and ready to throw you around like a toy, while the new rollercoasters glide smoothly and quietly while attempting to break the speed of light! Which BTW is, in a vacuum, is 186282 miles per second.

One ride that remained nearly the same was the Scooby-Doo ride. From the looks of it, those were the same boats I had ridden in more than a dozen years ago, and the same water! The Log Flume looked and smelled pretty much the same, only they SNAP your photo now, available for purchase, as you plummet down the hill with a crazed look on your face.

And of course we dined on some mighty fine junk food at some astronomical prices while we visited Six Flags, followed up by ice cream on the way home.

All in all it was a good day, and I think the kids are still in shock that Mommies In Orbit did something that they wanted to do for a change. We’ll be going back for more torture in the near future, only next time I’ll be braver and maybe even surprise them while I hold my arms high in the air and scream like a maniac on the rollercoaster, or not!

  1. We have twins are are headed to Six Flags tomorrow! Frankly, I’m looking forward to a great day with my kids but I’m not really looking forward to the rides….which is sad, because MAN I loved me some roller coasters growing up. I couldn’t believe it when my parents would pass on the big ones. Now I totally get it. I’ll wait at the exit with a book….no, I’m fine…..yes, I’m still having a blast because I’m with my crazy family.

    • I know what you mean, they beg me to go on some of those rollercoasters, and I just can’t bring myself to do it, but at least they are having fun!
