What does Google Earth have to do with kids? More than you could imagine!  The latest news from Google Earth is that some long-lost pyramids were discovered in the Egyptian desert and the photos are very convincing!  Of course, there are always the skeptics out there. Some people are claiming that it’s just not true. They claim that the sighting from Google Earth is nothing more than an earthly feature called a butte. But what this amateur archeologist claims is that she has possibly found two Egyptian pyramids.  Sounds like an ongoing argument to me, similar to what I hear at home!

Which brings me to the subject of how I will be using Google Earth to track my kids’ adventures. For now they are both, at nearly age 12, still within reach. BUT, as they orbit through middle school and meet new friends, and become more socially active, Mommies In Orbit will be prepared with Google Earth.

Google Earth is an awesome tool to use. With the click of the mouse, you can navigate all around the globe. It also features something called “street view.”  This technology features panoramic views from various positions of streets all over the world. WOW, just imagine how useful this could be to track your teens. Parents now armed with GPS, cell phones and Google Earth may be able to know who’s going where, and when. I think they used to call that spying when I was growing up.

This is where the phrase, “You had better be where you say you’re gonna be,” takes on a whole new meaning for parents!
