You’re probably thinking, what the heck does parenting have to do with an asteroid belt? Well for Mommies In Orbit, it comes with the territory. The actual asteroid belt is located somewhere between Mars and Jupiter. And asteroids and kids have a lot in common. They are both composed of very dense, rock-like material, so dense at times that nothing can penetrate their exterior, especially as they enter their pre-teen years!

As you have probably guessed by now, I wish I would have become an astronomer or an astrophysicist, LOL! As life would have it, I’m a parent to twins, living at the edge of my orbit. Each and every day is another cosmic explosion. I’m talking about real live chaos and tween babble that could and would scare away any intelligent alien life.
I find that using space terminology describes my life as a parent to a T.
Take atmospheric distortion, this is something I find happening on a daily basis. I say one thing, and the aliens interpret it in another way. When I say, “Go to bed,” they hear something like, “Let’s charge up our iPods and play!” This kind of distortion in our communication is enough to drive any parent mad!
Spring break just started on Friday, and we are in for 10 glorious days of togetherness! I can feel the galaxies colliding. This happens when two galaxies called, Rocket Boy and Channel Chick, spend too much time together with basically nothing to do, but snipe at one another 24-7. This is when Mommies In Orbit says, “I’ve had it!!” She proceeds to lock them out of the house, tosses out two sleeping bags, several pouches of food, and enough water for a couple of days of…….. sleeping under the stars.

So maybe it’s not too late for me to become an astronomer, or write about parenting in the cosmos. If I can make it through 10 days of Spring break, I can do anything!
