Does anyone remember band groupies from days gone by? So whatever happened to those people? Oh yea, some of them are parents now, and some are over the hill, like Mommies In Orbit!  I was too young for Woodstock, but when it came around to the mid seventies, it was all about the music.

Who knows, this could be a 1970’s version of me, I don’t remember.

St. Louis was lucky enough to have some top bands pass through our Riverfront City.  Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Led Zepplin, and my favorite, “The Grateful Dead.”   It was easy to get into a concert then, sometimes even without a ticket. If you had a 10 or 20 dollar bill, you basically had a ticket. Fold it up tight and hand it to the ticket guy, and if you were lucky, you were in.

Voted: Best and Most Deafening Concert I ever attended.

From what I remember, and that’s a challenge, bic lighters were popular, no one had cell phones then, platform shoes were the fashion, ripped jeans, and no we didn’t buy them for a hundred bucks, we just ripped ’em and of course, the classic tie-dyed t-shirt  There was always this strange smell wafting throughout the concert hall that made a lot of people say, “Peace and Love.”   Security was at a minimum, so about half-way through the concert, you could try your luck at sneaking down to the floor seats for a great view.

High and mighty platform shoes.

While things are much different in 2011, some things never change. It’s still so awesome to see your favorite band in person.  Gone is the funny smell in the air, and in it’s place the smell of beer and hot dogs.  But the feeling is the same when you walk out into the night to your car humming your favorite song, pure bliss!
