Mommies In Orbit wants freedom! Forty-eight hours have passed since I have interacted with other people in the world as we know it. It’s me and the cave people. They are now singing songs about banana phones and fighting over the last of the cheese balls. Dear Husband has the luxury of actually having a life and scooted off to work this morning as quickly as he could. “I’ve got a four-wheel drive and I know how to use it!”

There’s just something unnatural about being housebound for this long. With 3 inches of sleet and 4 inches of snow on the ground, it’s just not worth saddling up the kids and tossing them in the minivan. Where will we go, Target? I’m sure we would see lots of other bleary-eyed parents with their cave people wishing the schools would just open up the halls of knowledge. They have had six snow days so far. I’m thinkin’ they should just “bunk it” in the gym, we could pay a $15.00 fee per kid for snacks/beer/movies, and all the little hoodlums could have a giant sleepover.

I have spent so much time in my modern kitchen whipping up grub for the aliens, that I will soon be appearing on the popular show “Hell’s Kitchen.” Oh, wait, aren’t I already in hell’s kitchen?
Winter has dragged on for so long, that the dogs think that the bread we throw outside for the birds is a special treat for them. They will climb fences and perch on tables to get to it. I have also found Black Dog with his nose coated in bird seed while denying that he was anywhere near the bird feeders.
This too shall pass, but not before us Mommies lose that tiny slice of sanity we are hanging onto, three, count ’em, three snow days in a row. When the school district called again to tell us NO SCHOOL tomorrow, my kids came up to me and apologized.
“We’re sorry Mom, here’s a shoulder to cry on, we’ll be good.”
I guess Mommies In Orbit is doing something right raising some compassionate kids. I’ll be on my way now to distant planets where the skies are dark and quiet.
