Once upon a time before I had kids, I didn’t realize how two tiny humans could be such a force to be reckoned with. From the moment they were born, they led the way. OK, Mommy, now it’s our turn. They were both so stubborn in the hospital they had to stay for an extra week. The nurses said they couldn’t come home until they could take a bottle without falling asleep midway, she assured me that would happen in due time. It did, and one by one, they came home, changing our lives forever.

First Dear Daughter came home, she had to be first and still does with her bossy attitude, you see it was evident in infancy.  Little Dude was in no hurry, he liked all the attention at the hospital from the pretty nurses, and so reluctantly, he came home, and then there were two. Yikes. It’s like going from zero to 80mph on the German Autobahn, takes your breath away and makes you dizzy.

As they grew out of infancy you could just see the emerging personalities. Dear Daughter wanted to sit up and look around the room, instead of napping, pointing out all the things that weren’t done to her liking, a mini-Martha Stewart.  Little Dude kept us busy with acid reflux and making sure he went through at least ten tiny outfits a day.

The toddler stage went well, except for the two historical moments, when Little Dude swallowed a metal marble and Dear Daughter, shoved a bunch of mini M&M’s up her nose. Fast forward to 2011, I have two fourth graders, who can make me laugh, melt my heart, and cause my neurons to fire more rapidly than a rocket.

Now we have soccer practice, Boy Scouts, trips to the mall, sleepovers, door slammin’, smart mouthin’, and quite noticeably, an increase in selective hearing in both kids. They almost make you wonder if you really DID ask them to go to bed or come to the dinner table.
“But Mom, I didn’t hear you!”
“I know darling, that’s the problem!”
I guess we could also label that mind-controllin’. Whatever you want to call it, it’s like living with cave people some-days.

Here’s a timeline of the twins development:

2.) Happy Pre-Schoolers!
3.)  An actual photo of them now. Ya wanna tussle?

So, here we go, one orbit to the next, the tween orbit has been the most challenging.  But I hear the teen years are a blast. Stay tuned for more, “Mommies In Orbit”
