I lived there in 1977-1979, and I’m thrilled to have the memories and the photos. I didn’t have kids at the time, so traveling was a breeze. An evening walk to the local Trinkhalle was an adventure as many of the German people would greet me with Guten Tag or good day. The local Trinkhalle offered up Coca-Cola, ice cream or a nice cold beer, (German size = BIG.) Castles were a part of the everyday landscape. And yes, the people really do drive fast on the Autobahn, but then, a Porsche is destined to be speedy.
The German food was wonderful, bratwurst and pomme frites or french fries were yummy any time of the day. I hope to return to Germany someday, though I know things won’t be the same some 30 years later, but the beauty and friendly people will always be a part of my memory.
