I had the feeling that Monday April 16th was not just your regular old Monday. You know, drag the kids out of bed and get ’em ready for a week at school. I could tell that the everyday kid attitudes had changed into something much more powerful. These very attitudes were suddenly replaced by….. solar flares.
I get it that it’s almost the end of the school year and personally my kids have just about had it with MAP testing and the almighty #2 pencil, I remember those days too. But this was different. After hearing the nightly news, with Brian Williams, of course, I heard the report that our sun went and spouted one of those huge “Hi-Def Coronal Mass Ejections.” Awesome, I thought to myself. Now everything was falling into place. No wonder the aliens were out of sorts. The reporters promised that this huge solar flare would not affect our communication systems here on earth. But obviously they were not present, right here with Mommies In Orbit!

As parents, we don’t always get the answers we would like to have. For example, why is my kid acting like a wildebeest? Don’t know. Or where did those door slamming performances come from? Don’t ask me! Or, my favorite, how many arguments can we possibly have regarding who gets the last slice of bacon?
Now that I’m aware that there was what astronomers call an, explosive snap, *I have other names for that* I can understand why Monday was such a beast of a day. There will be many more Coronal Mass Ejections, just like there will be many more orbits we have to pass through. I’ll keep you posted as we venture through our latest and greatest pre-teen, times two phase, it should be interesting!
