I’m beginning to wonder just how many phobias my kids have. Let’s be realistic here, we are all fearful of something in life. My fears began when I found out I was having twins, that’s enough to last me a lifetime. I have noticed that Rocket Boy and Channel Chick are developing some fears and phobias.
For instance, my daughter has hydro-phobia. She’s not frightened of bodies of water that you swim in, this kid barely ever drinks water. I mean, this kid could put a camel to shame. A three ounce Dixie cup of water could last her all day long. If she’s ever stranded in a hot, dry climate, she will survive, on cactus juice and tumbleweeds. It’s a miracle!
You would think having twins in the same 5th grade class would make it easier for all of us when it comes to homework. They’re like night and day with their studies. Rocket Boy is scared to death of sitting down and reading a book, while his sister can rip through a 600 page Harry Potter book in two days! He will do anything to wriggle out of reading, even pretending that he has reading-phobia. Yes, he’s frightened of libraries, books, even the new Color Nook.
Both of my kids have an aversion to chores. We call this chore-a-phobia. They still can’t tell the difference between the washer and the dryer. They sit and ponder where the clean clothes came from. They could walk by a hunk of mud on the floor as big as an asteroid and not even think of hauling out a vacuum.
When it comes to dinner, it’s always a circus. You’ve never seen such picky eaters until you visit our house. Rocket Boy and Channel Chick are both veg-a-phobics! Yes, that’s right, they don’t like vegetables. Channel Chick will swear up and down that she can’t chew salad, and Rocket Boy thinks broccoli comes from trees. It’s maddening!
Here’s one we all can relate to: Nyctophobia, a fear of the dark! Anyone can have a fear of the dark especially kids. But my daughter is really over the top when it comes to a dark room. We’ve been forced to install floodlights that automatically kick on anytime she comes near her room, that should cure her!
And what’s up with tweens and teens, are they really afraid of bathing? Is it that fresh showered feeling that haunts them for the rest of the day? I have to scream, bribe and threaten to banish them to Jupiter if they don’t shower. We like to call this shower-phobia. Nobody like a stinky kid!
Here’s one for Mommies In Orbit, it’s one of my greatest fears. Mageirocophobia, this is the fear of cooking. Well then, now we know the answer for “What’s for dinner Mom?”
Stay tuned for a more comprehensive list of phobias.!
