Ever get that feeling that you’re just floating around over your kids making sure that all is well? My hovering was much more apparent when they were toddlers, always trying to save them from falling, tumbling, and running into objects. A lot has changed!
We’re currently heading into an orbit called, “When boy meets girl.” It’s quite an eerie place and time moves rather quickly. This is the place where girls talk about boys, and boys make fun of girls, promises are made and hearts are broken.
Mommies In Orbit will continue to parent from above like the Hubble Telescope, quietly, I can find out what’s going on with my kids if I’m nearly invisible. Listening is key! When tempers flare, and they do often, counting empty margarita glasses in my head along with sheep tallying can be very beneficial to my mood.

“This is where I’m headed if I don’t watch my step!” A black hole is a region of spacetime from which nothing, not even light, can escape. |

“Mom, are you easvesdropping again?”
The tween orbit is a world it’s own, packing in as many moods within one day as there are flavors of ice cream. They think they are all grown up and can fend for themselves, though in reality, they have a long way to go and they are still my babies, even at eleven years old.
I tread lightly and watch my mouth, for one little word to either Channel Chick or Rocket boy can rocket me right into the very center of a black hole, and I’m never escaping from there. They are very sensitive creatures, and dear old Mom is cynical and brash at times, thus I have to tone it down sometimes, which is a bit difficult to do when you’ve been the queen of smartass for so many years.
It’s a long road until they grow up and make decent decisions for themselves, I’m just thankful I can be here to help with the upcoming solar flares and the large asteroids heading this way. I won’t be doing much sitting while I’m dodging comets and putting out fires. It’s what I signed on to do …… wish me luck! |
