OMG, is anyone out there over 40? I know it’s a personal question, preferably one I don’t care to answer. I think I’m venturing into the “Forgetful Orbit.” Hey, at least that’s one orbit where I won’t meet up with my kids. I can have some peace and quiet while I forget most of what I have learned and experienced.
Have you ever put on a pot of water to boil for pasta, or put some toast in and totally forgot about it? Dear, what’s that noise in the kitchen? From experience and from reading about the aging brain, this is the time when we over 40, uhmmm, get easily distracted. Yikes, I thought distraction was just for kids. You know, kids don’t do your homework in front of the TV, you’ll get distracted! But I know Mom, that’s the point.
They (the scientists), say that the neural connections can weaken with age and disuse, what a harsh word. And I thought it was from being a child of the 70’s. I see that “Purple Haze” again, and it’s looking good.
The other day I was trying to remember the beginning of the song for Spongbob Squarepants, I know, but it was for a blog, so I have an excuse. I have seen about a million episodes with the twins. So I asked my kids when they got home from school, hey guys what are the lyrics to the Spongebob song, with that broke into song, “Who lives under a pineapple under the sea, Spongebob Squarepants.” I was so thrilled when they told me, then Little Dude says, “Mom, why didn’t you just Google it?” Oh, I guess I forgot that I could do that.
You betcha!!!! |
My Little Dude won’t ever let me forget the time I packed his lunch for school and forgot the PB&J sandwich, he was left with a bottle of water and a Pop-Tart, yikes, what kind of Mother does that? This one over 40 and up over another hill too. Some of it I can blame on the twins, after all, two at once can suck the life out of a person. As they have gotten older, they tend to use my forgetfulness to their advantage. MOM, but you DID say you would take us roller skating, and you agreed to skate WITH us. Don’t you remember? Yikes, did I really say something that dumb?
It’s inevitable, we are gonna forget stuff, we just have to remember the important stuff, like the gazillions of forms sent home by the school and when they are due, the kid birthday parties, don’t forget to replenish the junk food stash, where I dropped off Dear Daughter and when to pick her up, oh yes, the mortgage and the car payment. Hey with all that and more, it’s no wonder I forgot about the pot of water boiling, besides isn’t there an old saying that goes something like this, “A watched pot never boils.” I rest my case.
