Yes, we survived another winter weekend. With temps in the 20’s, bored kids, no snow, yet, we all agreed upon a big movie blowout! We turned to our local Blockbuster store to entertain us. I sent Dear Husband and Rocket Boy (formerly Little Dude), to choose some movies for all of us. It’s a monumental task to please everyone. Over the hill Mom likes comedies, Dad likes just about anything, Channel Chick prefers only the top flicks and Rocket Boy really just likes the candy.
The boys return with four movies, we figure at least two of these have to be OK. It’s one family activity, if you will, we can all do together, LAUGH! Even the dogs get into it. Smart Border Collie is a champ at begging for candy, and The Black Dog is tops at stretching his entire body across the sofa, displacing his humans to the floor. As it turns out, the movies were good and homework did not get done until Sunday. Other activities that kept the twins busy over the weekend were, yes, computer games.
YOU SAVED OUR SANITY! |
If my twins had it their way, they would stay on their computers day and night. They are both currently showing signs of addiction to the game, Poptropica. The addiction signs are similar to those addicted to gambling.
1. Plots to convince Mom that it’s really OK to play from morning until night, while avoiding homework.
2. Glazed over eyes, with no signs of returning to us anytime soon.
3. An odd appetite for only chips and beer.
4. Loud startling screams that sound a lot like,”I won a friggin’ jackpot!”
5. Cigar butts on the floor.
6. Strange private phone calls at midnight to “Gamers Hot Line.”
7. Credit card charges for Vegas-style buffets and Elvis impersonators.
8. Tipping me when I bring them a snack and a drink.
9. Both of the kids chanting, “What happens in the Midwest, stays in the Midwest.”
Poptropica, you have taken over my kids’ minds. |
The insanity must stop. OK kids enough is enough. Must go somewhere warm, where kids can play outside and there is no Wi-Fi, perhaps a spring break trip to Vegas?
