The old saying, “One Step Forward and Two Steps Back,” can surely be applied to Spring this year.  Just when we think we have nailed the perfect weather, mild 70 degree temps and sunshine, here come the storms, clouds and cooler temps.  Actually this statement is appropriate when raising kids, or trying to, that’s what I’m attempting to do.  Just when you think you are finally all in the same orbit, one kid or the other goes flying off into another orbit.

Or how about the big boiling pot of behavior and attitude? I think we have taken more than two steps back in this category.  I always feel like I’m falling into a very large crack in the earth, trapped, when it comes to twins/tween behavior. Really, at this age, moods can escalate from quiet and content to a maddening frenzy, all within seconds, times two!!

I look forward to when the weather stabilizes and I can spend some quality time outdoors with The Black Dog and Smart Border Collie. They are both anxious for the pool to open on Monday, though 60 degree temps are not ideal for swimming, we can sit around the blue lagoon with jackets on enjoying the fresh smell of chlorine.
I’ve decided to invest in a good pair of walkie talkies this summer for our communication needs. Then instead of screaming like banshees out the window when they need something, they can contact me via my WT. You can’t believe how many times I have had to bolt into the house upon hearing these werewolf screams coming from what used to be a peaceful home.  I can even dole out punishment via the walkie talkies while I’m perched poolside. I like this idea already!
Actully I’ve heard that we will be doing this one step forward and many steps back for a loooong time to come. Funny how that happens. When the wranglers were toddlers we were always warning them about the perils of the staircase, pinched fingers, boo-boo’s, falling off of their tricycles, but we made progress.  It’s way different now that they are 10 1/2. I’m still screaming out corrections like a drill sargeant, but most of the time they are not heard, UNTIL, Mommies In Orbit gets serious.  OK, get off your computers NOW, and for your punishment, put on your bathing suit and get into this pool and have some fun NOW!!
I’d like to enjoy my “long, hot Summer,” like Keith Urban sings, while taking some steps forward to the blue lagoon, I’m hoping that the wranglers can take some steps with me, in a positive direction.
