Day in and day our lives have become so busy and automated that we don’t always see what’s going on right in front of us. With so much “screen time” in the mix, we may not always look at who we are talking to, they used to call that “eye contact.” So what happens when we are focused on answering emails, involved in social media, and trying to make ends meet? Our kids literally grow up! All of a sudden you’re sitting across the table in a restaurant and you look at these two young adults, you really look at them, and realize, they are growing up, fast!
My twins are 13 now, and they would be mortified if they knew they were the subject of this post, but, they rock my world, and I’m so proud of the awesome people they have become. I absolutely adore them! You probably wouldn’t have heard me utter those words years ago when I thought I would barely make it through Summer break with both of them home, all day long!
It’s difficult to see beyond the forest when kids are 6 and 7 years old. When they were in elementary school, it seemed like time stood still. Witnessing firsthand the amazing process of kids becoming teenagers yields us a mixed bag of emotions. In the past there were days when I didn’t think I’d get them to the bus stop on time, and now we are face to face with driving in a couple of years.
I know I’m just at the threshold of the teen years, but so far it’s been an amazing ride. Frequently I want to say, “Hey, slow down, wait for me!” Now I partially understand how parents feel as their kids get closer and closer to the college years.
It’s incredible to observe their new interests, and best of all, I get to laugh along with them while they sharpen that oh- so important sense of humor! Gee, I wonder where they get that from! It’s the humor that gets us through those rough times when everyone is tired from the middle school schedule and the endless homework assignments. Moving on!
The road to my becoming a Mom was full of obstacles, but I persisted, and I’m so glad I did. To Ben and Jen, you rock my world!

This is so sweet. It’s been interesting watching my boyfriend’s son grow up. There was a time when he always wanted to be with us; now we never see him. He’s nearly 17. I remember 17.
