Sometimes I run into people who I’ve not seen in a long time and they ask me, “So how are the twins doing?”  When I respond with, “They’re teenagers,” they take a step backwards. Yes it’s true, twins do eventually turn into teens and a whole new chapter of our lives unfold.

At this point in time, here’s what I do. Stand back and look at things in a broader perspective, at least if you want to attempt to save your sanity. I’m talking about a view so wide that it’s like taking a personal photo from the ISS (International Space Station). If you don’t have this attitude, you risk getting caught up in teenage drama and everyone spirals out of control!

Who would have ever thought that at midlife I would have two teens to raise? Wishing for that house on the lake and a boat at midlife, no problem, how about in 10 years from now! Retirement, don’t even think about it; OK maybe after those college bankruptcy years.

Keep the perspective Mom, look at the broad picture, if you can. In the not too far off distance there will be, learning permits, driver’s licenses, and auto insurance for two teens, coming at you.  {equation X2=same age=insanity}

It’s all good. Just take a deep breath and exhale slowly. I have heard from friends and neighbors that, “This too shall pass!”

  1. This too shall pass doesn’t help much at times does it? Sometimes when people say that to me I want to yell out, Really? YAY!!!!! When???
