I recently came across a great new pet product invented by a young lady, Brooke Martin, a 13-year old 9th grade student from Spokane, Washington, called, iCPooch. This amazing product allows you to perform a two-way video chat with your pet from anywhere using your smart phone, tablet or a computer using a free Skype account. We all know our pets get lonely when we’re gone, some dogs experience anxiety while others resort to destructive behavior, like chewing up your favorite pair of shoes, or just being mischievous.  Here’s where iCPooch really delivers. Not only can your pet hear your voice, and see you, but iCPooch also gives your favorite pet a treat. And from having two dogs of my own, I know “treat” is one of their favorite words!  iCPooch connects to your wireless network at home and also uses a password protected site, and there are no monthly fees to hassle with.

“The iCPooch device is a combination of a miniature vending machine and a computer. The device acts like a computer, using a motherboard (Raspberry Pi) and wifi module to connect to the internet. The computer is attached to a motor which is activated when the owner of the device gives it the “drop treat” command from their remote computing device (smartphone, tablet, pc, etc). A removable/re-loadable sleeve inside the device houses the treats, and one treat is pushed out by the motor arm each time the motor is activated.

And of course there is software driving all this. The iCPooch software is pre-installed and runs locally on the device, waiting and hoping to get the “drop treat” signal. Our software is also running in the cloud, allowing an owner to log in to their personal account and give the “drop treat” command. By utilizing a cloud server for the app, we provide compatibility for any remote internet connected device, no matter the operating system or version.”

I’m anxious for iCPooch to hit the market, I know I will definitely purchase one. What a great idea to strengthen that special human-animal bond we have with our pets!
