I like the rhythms of Summertime, no alarm clocks, no school buses to catch, and lots of BBQ’s! Since I don’t travel much, the backyard is my personal oasis. Potted palm trees mimic the ones in Florida while the blue lagoon reminds me of a smaller version of a hotel pool.  And since we don’t have a pool boy or a gardener, that’s where my job comes in. And it doesn’t seem like work when Cody & Nikki join me poolside to help out.

Although yanking weeds out of the ground doesn’t quite sound like a vacation, it makes for a tidy bed so that the colorful flowers can spread out  and put on a show.

The bird feeder is always in need of a refill, along with the bird bath.  But once it’s filled to the brim, those daredevil birds are at it again, flying over us in the pool like miniature aircraft. The rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks are sure to clean up what the birds shake to the ground.

In the evening it doesn’t seem like a chore to go outside and water the thirsty plants while cleaning up from the busy day. Checking the tomato plants for that first big juicy tomato is like finding a prize.

I’m grabbing onto the long days of summer and enjoying them, for as long as it lasts!
