Anyone else out there wondering how December arrived so quickly at our doorstep? Christmas in the Midwest, Missouri to be exact, is being ushered in by 70 degree temperatures! Christmas shoppers are out in record numbers dressed in T-shirts, while leaving their heavy coats hanging in the closet. It won’t last forever, but we’ll take it while it’s here.
Now that my kids are both 12, it makes shopping more challenging than in past years. They are stuck in the high dollar orbit! This indicates to me that the toy shopping days are over and the electronic days are here to stay. My daughter, Channel Chick, as I used to refer to her here at Mommies In Orbit, is all about cold hard cash and gift cards from the mall. She’s totally in her comfort zone while browsing through her favorite stores.
My son, Rocket Boy, is happiest when he can get his hands on anything that has a touch screen, a mouse, buttons or a keyboard. “Free Wi-Fi” is one of his favorite phrases when he is out and about. This kid is in his comfort zone when he is surrounded by his laptop, iPod, and the remote control for the TV. Give him an endless supply of junk food and he’s in heaven.
Santa has a tough job this year pleasing these two preteens. I miss the days when Santa delivered Christmas gifts for the kids by the age range info on the box. If they were eight years old, then I just looked around for something interesting that fell into the 7-9 age group. As they inched toward age eleven, and now 12, shopping shifted from Toys R Us to Best Buy and the drive-thru ATM. They are stuck in the in-between galaxy, where stars are bright, black holes are lurking and mood swings are comparable to solar flares and storms!
May Santa bring you everything you wish for this Christmas and may the Bailey’s Irish Cream and hot coffee be abundant! Happy Holidays from Mommies In Orbit.
