Over The Fence

Seems like ever since school started, my whole life has been confined to a two-mile radius! Really! Everywhere I need to go, have to go, or am forced to go is within two miles of where I live. I can’t seem to break out of this circle! It’s like I’m living in one of my kids math problems.

I never thought I would say, “I wish summer break would last a little longer!”  Middle school has been a nightmare. I’m already wishing for the long days of summer when they kids were complaining about how bored they were. Anything is better than a 6 a.m. wake-up call, while trying to hustle barely awake kids out the door to meet the bus. I’ll take summer break any day. And so I eat my words from many summers past when I would do cartwheels in celebration of the first day of school.

After the kids get settled in school and all the bugs are worked out,  Mommies In Orbit is gonna break out of her two-mile radius and hit the open road. Maybe I’ll drive down some two- lane country roads,  and stop just in the nick of time to snap that grand photo of hawks sailing through the air, or horses running in a field. Wish me luck!

  1. I wasn’t ready for our summer to be over either, and that’s probably the first time I’ve ever felt that way. We spent all of my husband’s days off from work camping (in our RV) in various state parks. It was such a joy watching our little grandson enjoy the many adventures he experienced while traveling this summer. I miss our nightly drives though the parks at dusk searching for wildlife. My husband found a Red-Shouldered Hawk’s feather in our backyard this evening. So, I’m enjoying looking at it stuck in my pen holder next to my laptop. It’s a reminder of our future adventures!

    • That sounds like fun, I didn’t want Summer to end so soon, even though it was a heat wave most of the time. Good luck with your adventures with your grandson.
