Yep, the kids are heading back to school next week and this year I’m a bit anxious! We are entering into the middle school orbit, and things are way more complicated than elementary school. And instead of having one kid going, I have two! And it all starts tomorrow with a Back In The Pack day, so appropriately titled.
I barely remember my middle school days, and I think they called it Junior High then, of course in the seventies, that could have meant anything.
So I went online and did some reading about what to expect in middle school. OMG, most of the articles start out talking about bullying, and friendships changing, gym clothes, lockers, hormonal surges and to top it off, dating, yes dating! OMG, I repeat, dating! Maybe I don’t want summer to end.
The school supply list this year is frightening too! They not only need paper and notecards, your basic pens and pencils, but they need flash drives, deodorant for their gym lockers, and locker decor! The list this year is not only stressing out the credit cards, but it’s stressing out the kids! I know right!
Middle school kids come in all shapes and sizes, that’s one of my fears. Kids compare all kinds of stuff with other kids. I’ve heard them have at length discussions about what shoe size they wear! I’m sure the girls are having quite different conversations, and maybe I’m not ready to hear those! I hear that eye-rolling becomes abundant during the preteen years, along with door slamming performances, which BTW, we have been experiencing for years, no surprise there!
I’m sure I will learn just about as much as my kids do in the weeks to come!
