PART ONE: So here we are fresh back from our vacation at Virginia Beach. There are tons of things to do in and around the area, just take your pick.
There’s the famous boardwalk that spans about three miles, side by side with the Atlantic Ocean. You can see all kinds of people on the boardwalk performing various types of activities. Besides tons of runners, you’ll see a lot of people riding bikes, one at a time, or you can rent a bike built for four. With enough leg power you can propel yourself as far as you wish on the Boardwalk. You’ll see all kinds of people walking, skating, pushing baby strollers, doing pretty much what they want to do along the Boardwalk. And this goes on from early in the morning until the sun goes down, and then some after. It’s an active place.
My daughter and I went out for frozen yogurt one evening and the boys went fishing off the pier. We sat in some awesome white rocking chairs next to the boardwalk eating our $13.47 worth of yogurt, and that’s only for two of us, watching the people stroll by. We started giggling when we spied a man who we so rightly named, “The Ape Man.” Please forgive me but I have never seen someone with such huge masses of body hair in my life, it looked truly like the shag carpeting from the 1970’s, though not the olive-green color. He must have been mighty proud of this thick external coat, because he wasn’t afraid to go shirtless. We sat in awe and laughed and snorted, and just when we thought we had seen enough, he gets off his bike with his girlfriend, who by the way, had a normal amount of hair, and started dancing. Really, he was swaying with the music. It was more than we could take, we vacated our rocking chairs immediately.
My daughter turned to me and said, “Mom, I’ve been scarred for life!” I knew it was true. We were both too chicken to take a photo of him with our phones. I mean really, those little data cards can only handle so much distress. So next time your decide to take a stroll on the famous Boardwalk, come prepared for just about anything!
