Parenting, it’s all about journeys, milestones and sometimes insanity. That’s not the Wikipedia definition of parenting, but it’s mine. In a mere 13 days we are about to close the doors on our elementary school journey and enter into an entirely new orbit called, Middle School Madness.

Not only will we be getting up at the crack of dawn, meeting new kids and teachers, but I can already feel the shift in the attitudes. We are about to enter a new solar system. Going from top dog 5th graders at elementary school, to the bottom of the totem pole at middle school is a big change.

Mommies In Orbit has all Summer to prepare for the inevitable explosions that are bound to occur as we get closer to our epic journey. In my mind I can picture the solar flares and  hot glowing gases, that release tremendous amounts of energy into space, or my kitchen, whichever comes first.

But first we have to survive the Summer of 2012. And with two preteens who have no interest in camps, who are too young to stay home alone, and one Mom who is already at her Prozac limit, it’s looking like it’s gonna be a “Long Hot Summer!” Right Keith?
