Do you ever wonder just how your kids’ actions and behaviors could be compared to the planets and the stars? Tell me I’ve watched too many space programs, and I’ll agree with you. When I hear an astronomer talk about gamma ray bursts, there is only one thought comes to mind, my two tweens and their out of this world behavior!
Take the planet Venus, it’s a world of intense heat and volcanic activity, no surprise there. This description fits our wild pre-teen hormone fluctuations rather perfectly. The temperature on Venus reaches 870 degrees, that’s hot enough to melt lead, or melt a parent’s brain!

The length of one day on Venus is equal to 244 earth days, a parental nightmare. Atmospheric pressure on Venus is 90 times greater that what we feel on earth. Our own pressures top out to the max, right here at home, especially on long weekends!
On Venus, the sun rises in the West and sets in the East. This oddity is similar to the confusion that we face as parents raising any child, at any age!
But let’s don’t forget about Mars. The red planet has one-third the gravity we have on Earth. And yes, sometimes I feel like I have a martian or two residing in my home. On some occasions, the communication here is like a star full of hydrogen and helium gas, ready to blow!

Sometimes this so-called Mom’s life could provide a backdrop to produce my own sci-fi documentary! So what’s a parent to do? Hang in there until the aliens grow up and move to their own planet? Enjoy the ride, and know that this too shall pass!
