I know, I watch way too many space programs and read more than enough about the solar system. But it’ so cool. We viewed Jupiter along with three of its moons using our suburban telescope the other night. Jupiter is like our BFF, in that it deflects any naughty comets or asteroids heading toward earth, saving us from getting our butts pounded and pummeled.
“When viewed from Earth, Jupiter can reach an apparent magnitude of −2.94, making it on average the third-brightest object in the night sky after the Moon and Venus. (Mars can briefly match Jupiter’s brightness at certain points in its orbit.)”

Thank you Jupiter for protecting our planet, you’re my hero! |
And BTW what else am I gonna do? It’s winter and I am hereby trapped in the house each and every night listening to the aliens bicker and babble. My nearest escape is either the large bottle of vodka I hide in the cabinet, next to the crock pot or the telescope. Or star-gazing and drinking heavily 75/25!
Cosmic collisions are common in outer space and at home, with just about the same intensity. There are so many common denominators between raising kids and the constant activities in our solar system and beyond. There is darkness and light, loud bangs, asteroids hurtling through the air, comets with tails and colorful explosions. Mind-boggling, and there’s always more where that came from!
“Oh my,was that loud noise upstairs or in space?” |
