I hear that brain clutter in our Mom community is on the rise. Or, as us astrophysicist-types like to say, orbital debris is clouding our ability to think clearly. At any given time we have millions of tiny scraps of debris floating about in our brain. I blame it mostly on my kids, they interrupt so often that it’s difficult to have one solid, coherent thought!

My mind on kids! |
Before kids, we used to be able to file our thoughts just where they belonged. We were also able to retrieve them when necessary. Then after baby one, two, three, etc came along, the sleepless nights, combined with all the demands that kids place upon us, our thoughts became random and scattered. Personally I have never been able to gather any of my thoughts since the wranglers started talking. Now that they are almost eleven, I don’t even try to speak coherently, you can witness that by my blog. Babble!

What the brain looks like when kids are talking to us! |
The little spikes that you see in the above picture, are arrows of pain. These occur when a Mom has to hear the same story from their kids over and over, every detail included. There are many other instances in which these spikes can be triggered, like when your daughter insists on a birthday sleepover, big arrow of pain. Or when parents are cooped up with their kids way too long, like over the holiday break and summer. How do you get rid of the brain clutter? You don’t. We grasp for our thoughts as we are talking, we drive through Starbucks half asleep, we attend PTO meetings in our PJ.s. We are out of control. The only way to tame the noise temporarily is to pour yourself an over-sized martini and just accept that orbital debris is now a part of your life.
