This is just the kind of night where I’m inclined to run out the front door in my robe screaming, “Someone, please take the wranglers to a far away place!” They have broken my spirit with their constant bickering and bullshit. OK, sharing is good!
You know the drill, it goes something like this, “This is it kids, stop the bickering NOW, or else!” Silence falls upon the house until they refuel. Meanwhile, I sit here at my computer and once again turn to space for comfort.
Tonights the night that I am the “red eye” of the Helix Nebula. Tonight I do not feel like a cosmic startlet, I feel like the remains of a distant star.
According to the article, the Helix Nebula is just about where I would love to be right now, about 700 light years away. I wonder if outer space is quiet or violently loud?
Before the star died, its comets and possibly planets would have orbited the star in an orderly fashion. But when the star blew off its outer layers, the icy bodies and outer planets would have been tossed about and into each other, resulting in an ongoing cosmic dust storm. Any inner planets in the system would have burned up or been swallowed as their dying star expanded.

This infrared image from NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope shows the Helix nebula, a cosmic starlet often photographed by amateur astronomers for its vivid colors and eerie resemblance to a giant eye.
I think I need a vacation, alone, and a good night’s sleep.
