Is it the Fall weather? I don’t know what’s up but I’ve been cooking like crazy today. One pot of yummy chili and now some minestrone soup, hungry anyone? This is not something I do often, though I do try to feed the wranglers a home-cooked meal every night. I’m sure when they hit the front door, one of them will yell, “Eww Mom, what’s that smell?”  Unless it smells like chocolate-chip cookies, they don’t think I should make it.

“Why am I spending the entire day in the kitchen?”

Actually my kids have never been fast-food fanatics, they have never-ever liked McDonald’s. Weird, I know right! They like then normal kid food, pasta and more pasta!  Rocket Boy has, in record time, scarfed down two Reese’s peanut butter cups without breathing! I know, it’s extraordinary! He loves sweets. Channel Chick adores pasta. In fact I found a dried up noodle in her room the other day, don’t know what she was saving why she was saving it.

Kids have such weird eating habits and Mommies In Orbit seems to cook the same old thing every week. I’m not an expert in the kitchen by any stretch of the imagination. I bought some of that yummy frozen cookie dough and went to bake it the other day, only I forgot (due to my over the hill mind), to break the cookies apart first. What we ended up with were giant, malformed cookies that literally grew off the baking pan in the oven. Really, I couldn’t even get Rocket Boy’s friends to go near them.
One of his buddies looked at me with fear in his eyes, when I offered him some of them. “No thanks, I’m not hungry!” Then they both raced out of the room to play video games.

I own so many pots and pans that I can barely shut the cabinet door. And I’m a ceramic bowl addict. I can’t step foot in a HomeGoods store without purchasing a brightly colored, useful bowl, at least that’s what I tell myself. Of course rice looks better in a nice pumpkin-colored bowl, why wouldn’t it. It’s all in the presentation!

But you can bet that by Friday night I will have had my fill of cooking and be on the way to my favorite little Mexican restaurant for some spicy south of the border cuisine and a big ole margarita!

Yummy!
