Yep, that’s me! I’m beginning to think I’m turning into a slacker mom, that’s not a bad thing, is it? I used to think multitasking was such a good thing, nah, why hurry? I’m cutting corners when I can, you know like laundry? That pesky chore doesn’t seem to go away. I’ve made a new rule around the house, when the basket tips over, it’s time to do laundry, in the meantime, don’t worry ’bout it.
Home-cooked meals?  Aren’t they a thing of the past? Open, heat, stir, eat, pitch, that’s my new motto! If kids can remember most episodes of Phineas and Ferb, surely they can recall those few words when it comes to dinner. Am I starting to sound like a slacker Mom?
I’ve heard supermoms called Alpha Moms, these chicks are in control. Alphas are the tops in their community, they project the highest ranking. They’re the ones in the grocery stores who, while babbling on their cell phones, bump us slacker Moms right out of the way. I have plenty of other names for them too, much more descriptive. The word chill is not in their vocabulary. They try to do it all, and the kids pay the price. I know I can do it all, I just don’t wanna!
My kids were parked in front of the TV and watched their favorite shows when they were younger. Does that mean I’m a slacker Mom. Nope, it just indicated that I needed to keep my sanity in check. Now that they are tweens, they’re not involved in every after school activity offered. One activity each still gives them time to chill. They have ample time to be kids, in a free-form sort of way.
I’ve never been an alpha Mom, I think that by the time I had kids, at midlife, I knew better, I also didn’t have the energy. My kids are happy and well-balanced. They don’t want to see Mommies In Orbit in stealth fighter mode all the time. They need a Mom who has time to listen to what’s going on in their world.
You know my canines, Smart Border Collie and The Black Dog have the right idea, they nap most of the day and play at night, I think I’ll them Slacker Dogs.
Next time you catch yourself racing around trying to do it all, take a break, put your feet up and remember Jason Aldean’s lyrics, “I’m chillin’ on a dirt road!”
I know I can do it all, I just don’t want to!
