Moms Who Have Twins May Live Longer: Study Says

HealthDay

OMG, my brain about split in half when I saw the headline. A lot of unexpected stuff can happen when you have twins, but living longer? Yikes! So where in the hell are the experts when you need an extra hand?  What were the experts doing while Mom was up and at ’em at 2 a.m. feedings times two? How about when Mommy tried to balance both kids on a boppy pillow along with two bottles and two burp cloths, while the phone was ringing (with post-partum depression)? That alone will surely add a few years to our lives. Or how about when they both became mobile like little roadrunners? And now where are you experts when the door slammin’ and smart mouthin’ has begun? Just what I thought, hiding behind your computers collecting data!

“This study has been able to identify — and it’s a fairly novel result — another important factor that contributes to health and longevity in later years, namely, that women bearing twins appear to be healthier,” Smith said. “That innate healthiness is contributing to their ability to have twins, and it is also contributing to their longevity.”

Having two kids at one time has turned Mommies In Orbit into a raving maniac. At the end of one day, I have gained the experience of being, a Mom, a cook, a nag, a hard-ass referee, a rescuer, a screamer and on some days, a human dart board. It just doesn’t get any better than that! So prove to me oh great researchers, how running at that pace can lengthen a human life? Maybe if my body is pickled with vodka? Or I’m maxed out on my Prozac dose?

Now I have two tweens!

Me before twins!

Me after twins!

Parenting, it’s a challenge to say the least.  What about those days when you just can’t dodge one more poisionous dart, or you’ve run out of hiding places, or perhaps you just can’t scream loud enough to drown out TWO kids fighting like wildebeasts. Tell me how that makes for a longer life span and I’ll make you the best martini, poolside, you’ve ever had! If  you can find the difference between the “before” and “after” pictures of Mommies In Orbit, than you totally get it.
