For a small slice of time, just a few hours here and there, my wranglers have been giggling, playing video games, and just downright getting along. I know, enjoy it while you can, it won’t be long and the poison darts will be flying again. So what changed? Is it the stormy weather we have been getting for days now? Is it the anticipation of the Easter Bunny’s arrival? Did they overhear me threaten to pack it up and hit the road?

Well, whatever the hell happened… it’s a good thing. I’ll take one or two or lots more days of this newly discovered behavior. Maybe it’s the fact that this is their 2ND Spring Break in two months, homework-free, and they know Summer is right around the corner.

How long can this possibly last?
Ahhh, caffeine!

I long for the days when the wranglers become a little more independent. You know, like doing some of their own cooking, fetching Mom a coca-cola, going to bed without a screaming match, and not changing orbits so rapidly. Then perhaps I can sprawl out in the lounge chair poolside with Smart Border Collie and The Black Dog, without countless interruptions. Wake UP Mommies In Orbit, they are only 10 years old, these types of wishes won’t be granted to you until our kids reach at least 30!

I don’t know what drives other parents nuts. For this Mom, it’s the fighting, the constant reminding and redirecting, the shuffling in and out of the car, the insanity at the dinner table, the homework battle, the excessive smart mouthin’ and last but not least, the sudden amnesia and hearing loss they CLAIM to have developed when I tell them it’s bedtime!

It’s downright maddening and I don’t know how I will survive their teen years. Two driving at once, double the car insurance and gas, twice the cell phones, and 100 times the worry. Hopefully we can all reside in the same orbit until we begin to come closer and closer to the solar flares and the meteors and the other teen distractions. Until then, it’s business as usual, “Hey who wants to watch Spongebob Squarepants with me?”

Bye Bye wranglers.
