Pioneer Days Ahead!!

With the intimidating weather forecast looming over us, we may have to get back to our roots.  Here in the Midwest we are supposed to get debilitating ice and 8-12 inches of snow. That of course means the cave people will be off school, again. If we get too much ice, SNAP, there go the power-lines.

We are so dependent upon electricity, that when it’s gone, we are like little lost sheep. What am I gonna do with Rocket Boy and Channel Chick minus power? Laptops won’t function, TV’s will be silent, which sounds good to me, and our only source of heat and cooking will be the fireplace. I doubt if my kids have ever seen a cast iron skillet.

I guess I could make the kids catch up on reading, Rocket Boy avoids reading like the plague. He detests it, so if he is thrown back in time to the days of readin’ and writin’, he will probably pop a vein. However, Channel Chick loves to read and will do so until her brother begs her to stop.

I’ve done the mad rush to the grocery store, filled up the liquor flasks with emergency moonshine, charged up the cell phones, and made a secret hiding place for myself in the closet where the cave people can’t find me. Did I leave anything out?

Back in 1982 I was a farm girl and when we got tons of snow, only the dairy truck could make it up the gravel road to service the dairy farms. Of course…. I was able to think then and had only me and my critters to take care of.  Now I have a different kind of critters, the kind who try to control my mind and actions like they are a special breed of Power Rangers. The kind who backtalk and smart mouth and make me wish I had never given the fertility gods the go-ahead!!!

Smart Border Collie DOES use mind control on me as you can see in the photo, and I usually obey her commands.  Black Dog however is so laid back, that he doesn’t care about mind control, kids, snow, ice, nothing, but toys and treats.  Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the weather doesn’t put anyone in danger and we will all look forward to an early Spring.
