What would happen if you gave a Mom a plane ticket to the destination of her choice? Where would she go in the middle of Winter? She would keep it a secret, hint, it would be somewhere with turquoise water, and balmy breezes and sand. This would be a get-a-way where she could blog to her heart’s content without interruptions from the cave people. In fact, she wouldn’t have to listen to conversations through closed doors. Her kids would do fine without her, they could call out DA-ADD, continuously, instead of MOMMMMM!  If she wanted to read she could do so in silence:  no screams, hissy fits, squeals, sibling hatred rivalry, no flaming arrows to duck, no aliens, period.

No Kids Allowed!

She could go to a beachside restaurant without anyone perched next to her babbling relentlessly until her ears caught on fire, just her quiet laptop, a tranquil book and an interesting magazine. She could move around to different rooms in her suite without anyone wondering, “Where’s Mom, she was just here, I know I left her right here, she  must have moved, aren’t Moms supposed to stay put?”

Her beloved family, plus that one extra kid who keeps showing up in our photos.

She would miss Smart Border Collie and Black Dog and they would miss her, she would think about the cave people every once in a while, but not too much.  The kids would be busy with school and Dad would be frantic with the kids in the evening.  There’s the cooking, the laundry, the homework, the feuds, door slammin’, and squealin’ and of course smart mouthin’, nothing a Dad couldn’t handle ALL BY HIMSELF!

Mom could shop at some cute shops by the beach, instead of “Justice” at the mall with Mr. Bieber music screeching in the background while Mom’s neurons fire more rapidly than they ever have before, making new neural connections.

Ahhh, nothing like a walk in the sand and a cold drink in hand. Mom deserves this time to herself, after all she is the primary servant caretaker in the house. She will enjoy every drop of her vacation and when she returns home she will be greeted by her little aliens. She’ll smile as she remembers the sand between her toes and the beautiful sunsets on the beach.
