Who has one of those dogs that keeps an eye on the counter-tops at all times? I do! Here’s a cute mug shot of the guilty pup.
Luckily Nikki has never gotten into anything that was dangerous. Mom’s been careful to keep things like that tucked away behind closed cabinet doors. However, she did help herself to an entire plate of fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies. That act warranted a call to the vet. I was assured that there wasn’t enough chocolate in the cookies to cause any problems. Whew!
My kids can’t leave any of their homework out on the counter. Yes, Nikki will grab it, run like heck and eat whatever she can get away with. This dog loves the taste of paper. When she grabs something she wants, she locks her jaws down so tightly, ain’t nobody is getting in there!
She’s sneaky too. Just leave the room for a few minutes and she’s scouring the counters with intent. Peanut butter sandwiches are her favorite. She is a pro! I’ve witnessed Nikki going to the back door “acting” like she has to go out, and as soon as you turn your back to unlock the door, she’s fast on all fours and after your food. She’s fast and sly as a fox. Nikki is part border collie, part human, she is a joy to be around, even though everything has to be nailed down!

Our dog doesn’t counter surf because he isn’t permitted to be in the kitchen, but our cat sure does!
