We are a force to be reckoned with. I’m just sayin’, we know what we’re getting ouselves into. It’s a tough job, a blessing, a rollercoaster, call it what you want, but it’s possible!! And it’s worth it, here’s just a snippet of this Mom’s life!

I’m a mid-life, SAHM Mom of twins, who avoided motherhood like the plague for most of my life. So one day I begged the fertility gods to please, grant me one wish, to have a child.  He looked at me and laughed hysterically, “At your age?”

“Why yes, over forty, first time Moms are all the rage!”

The ultrasound showed TWO babies, one boy and one girl, smugly parked in MY uterus, and equipped with fiery attitudes!
Fast forward about 10 years and here we are, raisin’ tween twins.  Since The Scientist and Mommies In Orbit both survived the 70’s, barely, how hard could it be to raise a couple of kids, rightly named, Rocket Boy and Channel Chick!?

Along with advanced maternal age, hey at least I’m advanced in something, come the rude-ass, idiotic remarks from people who don’t have a clue. Be prepared!

“Oh, my do you have the grandkids for the day?”

This makes Mommies In Orbit breathe fireballs.

“Your grand-daughter is so darling, how old is she?”

I’d love to answer with, ” Oh, do you want me shove this syringe full of fertility drugs where the sun doesn’t shine, you moron?”

Are these “people” hibernating in a wolverine den? Haven’t they heard of the over-40 baby boom? Now that my kids are 10, I know they’re thinking, “WTF, she’s our Mom, you idiot, and she rocks!” Well said, wranglers!

Of course there are days when I wish I could have strapped their asses to NASA’s satellite named “Dawn.” Dawn is on track to orbit the asteroid Vesta for the next 18 months, that should give me a break!!! Oh, and Vesta just happens to be 114 million miles from earth, quite a buffer zone, don’t ya think?

Was it worth it? Yes! Would we do it again? Hell no. Are we going to enjoy our little wranglers? You betcha!

Any questions?

  1. Totally Mental Mommy

I think the reason most people automatically assume that 'older' woman + small children = grandchildren, is because there are *so* many super young mothers who just dump their kids off with grandma to raise while they go party or whatever. Sad, really.
